Selling by bid - more than just selling

When you bid for an artwork at Földváry Auction House, you are not just selling it - you are giving it a chance to find a new owner at the best possible price. An auction is not just a sale, it is a competition, where the true value of an artwork is determined by the enthusiasm of the bidders and the activity of the bidders.

Buying in - only in exceptional cases

Important to know: the auction house not specifically a purchasing undertaking. In exceptional cases - if the item is truly special, valuable and sought after - we will make an offer to buy it, which is 50-60% of fair market value by definition, but these are rare exceptions. Buying an artifact is only worthwhile for us if there is guaranteed demand for the item on the auction market and a favorable price, in which case, however, it is, immediately and for cash we buy.

What is the key to successful sales?

It is very important that you not only donate the item you wish to auction, but also invite and bring friends, collectors and interested people who you know may be interested in the items you are donating. Doing this without having to uncomfortable to have to compete with your friends in person, the auction house will arrange the bidding for you in an elegant castle setting, so that you can at the highest possible price the item should be sold. If there is only one bidder for your artwork, there will be no competition and prices will remain low, typically at the starting price or in after sales. 

The auction house is your partner in this strategic bidding process: we organise shows, promote the artworks in multi-site travelling exhibitions, promote the artworks through extensive B2B and Facebook Insta TikTok marketing activities to generate interest, but it won't be effective if you are not pro-actively involved.

In summary: a really serious price competition can emerge when You become an active part of the auction process - by leveraging our own contacts, raising awareness among stakeholders and the profession, we can become true partners for long-term mutual success.

Simply putting your artwork up for bid and then sitting back and waiting for someone to come along and buy it is a blind luck, not a good tactic.
